Sir Bradley Wiggins claims silver at World Championships

Sir Bradley Wiggins fails to overcome defending champion Tony Martin at the Road World Championships in Italy.

Great Britain's Sir Bradley Wiggins was forced to settle for a silver medal in the men's individual time trial at the Road World Championships.

Wiggins, who had previously stated his eagerness to win gold, set a time of 1:06:22 on the Tuscany course.

However, it did not prove to be quick enough as defending champion Tony Martin finished in a time of 1:05:36 - 46 seconds ahead of the Brit.

Two seconds behind Wiggins was Switzerland's Fabian Cancellara, who claimed the bronze medal.

Meanwhile, Wiggins's fellow countryman, Alex Dowsett, could only finish 41st.
