Phil Taylor eases through in Minehead

Phil Taylor eases into the second round of the Players Championship Finals with a 6-2 win over Paul Nicholson.

Phil Taylor has begun his attempt to retain his Players Championship Finals crown with a 6-2 victory over Paul Nicholson.

The 16-time world champion was never in trouble after moving 3-0 ahead, and he wrapped up the win after a string of missed doubles from his opponent.

Adrian Lewis shared the opening six legs with Kevin Painter before recording a 6-3 success, while Michael van Gerwen made light work of Jamie Lewis.

However, there were surprise defeats for Dave Chisnall and Simon Whitlock, who both lost out 6-4 to Jelle Klaasen and Justin Pipe respectively.

Raymond van Barneveld edged a last-leg decider against Mervyn King, Andy Hamilton came from 5-1 down to record a remarkable 6-5 triumph over John Part and Robert Thornton achieved a comfortable 6-3 win over Richie Burnett.
