Rob Cross impresses to book World Championship quarter-final spot

Rob Cross books his place in the World Championship quarter-finals with a 4-0 victory over Jonny Clayton.

Rob Cross has set up a World Championship quarter-final with Chris Dobey with a resounding 4-0 victory over Jonny Clayton.

The former world champion watched Dobey whitewash 2023 winner Michael Smith on Friday night, and he was able to follow suit less than 24 hours later.

While Cross hit just four 180s, he dropped just the four legs, averaging 98.41 after kicking off the contest with a 140 checkout.

Meanwhile, Scott Williams is through to face Michael van Gerwen in the last eight after impressively dispatching of Damon Heta by a 4-1 scoreline.

Williams - who started this tournament in 52nd place in the PDC Order of Merit - found himself level at 1-1, despite missing just two darts at a double, but he twice came through sets that went the distance to claim a 4-1 triumph over the 10th seed.

In the other game of Saturday's afternoon session, Dave Chisnall produced his best performance of the tournament to record a 4-2 success over Daryl Gurney.

Although the 11th seed failed to post a three-figure checkout, he hit nine 180s and averaged just below 99 to fend off his Northern Irish opponent who had rallied from 2-0 down to level the match.

Chisnall will now face the winner of the clash between Luke Humphries and Joe Cullen, which concludes the action on Saturday evening and follows the highly-anticipated showdown between five-time world champion Raymond van Barneveld and 16-year-old Luke Littler.
