Matthew Mitcham: 'We did remarkably well to win 3m synchro silver'

Australian diver Matthew Mitcham says that he and Grant Nel did "remarkably well" to win 3m synchro silver at the Commonwealth Games as they can't train together often.

Matthew Mitcham has said that he and Grant Nel did "remarkably well" to win Commonwealth silver for Australia in the synchronised 3m springboard considering how little the pair train together.

The duo came second behind England's Jack Laugher and Chris Mears, who live and train together in Leeds throughout the year.

"Jack is in such good form at the moment. He's ranked third in the world and [he and Chris] train together," Mitcham, who won his second silver of the Games after also finishing behind Laugher in Wednesday's 1m springboard final, told reporters.

"It's kind of hard for [Grant and I] because we live in different cities, so the amount of training we get is maybe one week when we get here, we did one week about a month before we left and then we got a week at trials.

"Apart from that, we hardly get to train together, so I think we actually do remarkably well for the amount of training we get together."

Mitcham still has two more events left at the Royal Commonwealth Pool in Edinburgh, the synchronised 10m platform tonight and the individual 10m tomorrow - an event in which he won Olympic gold at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
