England diver Jack Laugher has insisted that he and diving partner Chris Mears are focused firmly on gold in the 3m synchro event.
Laugher and Mears have only been diving together since April but enter the Commonwealth Games as the top-ranked team with ambitions of topping the podium next week.
"Obviously we're really aiming for a gold medal," Laugher, 19, told Sports Mole. "A medal would be amazing but gold's the one we really want."
Laugher attributes the duo's success to their strong bond away from the pool, adding: "We're great mates. We're with each other pretty much 24/7. We live two doors down from each other, we cook curries together, we play games together and hang out together. We're the best mates and as a synchro team we're really stronger [because of that]. We get on so well and I couldn't speak higher of the lad."
The final of the men's 3m springboard synchro takes place in Edinburgh next Friday morning, while Laugher also competes as an individual - again as the top-ranked participant - in the men's 3m springboard individual event the day before.
