The BBC's chief content officer Charlotte Moore has quashed speculation that Gavin and Stacey could be back for a surprise Christmas special this year.
The comedy returned last Christmas for a new episode, some 10 years on from the last series, and ended up pulling in a phenomenal 18.5 million viewers.
Over the weekend show stars Mat Horne and Joanna Page were spotted together at a bar in Cardiff, sparking rumours that a secret new episode could be in the works as a surprise for the end of 2020.
Asked about the rumours at the BBC's Christmas 2020 press launch, Moore replied: "That wasn't something that was going to happen this year. One day."
Co-creator Ruth Jones has previously insisted that she and James Corden have made no progress on a new episode this year.
