Germany win gold, Great Britain miss out on medal

Germany clinch the gold medal at the equestrian individual eventing as Great Brtain fall out of contention.

Michael Jung has claimed gold for Germany at the equestrian individual eventing while Great Britain's trio missed out on a medal.

Tina Cook and Mary King were the favourites to clinch a medal for the Brits following their impressive performances in the team eventing earlier today, which led GB to silver.

Despite their chances, neither competitor could do enough to claim a place on the podium following disappointing runs at Greenwich Park.

Zara Phillips, who began her ride with little chance of clinching a medal, completed a faultless session going all clear to top the rankings at the stage with 53.10 penalty points.

Despite a positive ride, it wasn't enough to put her in contention of the medals following a strong performance from Germany's Sandra Auffarth.

Sweden's Algotsson Ostholt narrowly missed out on gold after stumbling at the first fence, which secured her a silver medal, while German nabbed bronze through Auffarth.
