AFC Wimbledon manager Neal Ardley insists that Football League survival is his team's major aim over the coming months.

New AFC Wimbledon manager Neal Ardley has admitted that he has set his players the target of surviving in League Two this season.

The Dons are currently just one place above the relegation zone having collected just 11 points from 13 outings.

Despite admitting that he wants his team to be competitive, Ardley has conceded that he would be happy to reach "50 points".

"It's not going to happen overnight," he told reporters. "The first target is 50 points, which is what we think is going to be safety. If we can do that and stay in the League, we have got a great chance of building something going forward.

"The biggest fear I would have would be not building something going forward. It might be boring and not what the fans want to hear but that's all we are concerned about.

"Rome wasn't built in a day. But we have been able to spend time with the players and get ideas across. We have just got to make sure we are competitive while we improve things."

Ardley took charge of Wimbledon earlier this month.
