River Plate manager Matias Almeyda is keen to lure Newcastle United's Jonas Gutierrez back to Argentina.

River Plate are considering a bid to bring Newcastle United wide-man Jonas Gutierrez back to Argentina.

The 28-year-old joined the Magpies from Mallorca in 2008 and has become a fans' favourite among the Geordie faithful, playing 144 times for the Tyneside club.

Gutierrez is said to be very happy at Newcastle and is contracted to the club until 2015.

However, River boss Matias Almeyda is a big fan of the versatile player and is hopeful that the prospect of returning to his homeland can lure Gutierrez to Buenos Aires, according to The Sun.

Gutierrez has been capped 22 times by Argentina.
