Sergio Aguero: 'South American teams have advantage at World Cup'

Argentina striker Sergio Aguero believes that the conditions for the World Cup in Brazil will give the South American teams an advantage at the tournament.

Argentina striker Sergio Aguero has said that he believes South American teams could have an advantage at the World Cup in Brazil this summer.

Alejandro Sabella's side, along with hosts Brazil, are among the favourites to lift the trophy that they last won in 1986.

Aguero has backed his country to do well at the tournament, claiming that the weather conditions and familiarity with the South American stadiums will help those sides from the continent.

"I think that those countries playing in the same continent have some advantage," Aguero told Eurosport. "Obviously, Brazil benefit the most because they play in their own country, surrounded by their own people.

"But the weather and stadiums over there are different to the ones you find in Europe, so maybe in that respect we will have the advantage.

"But all games are difficult, and in a World Cup all the teams are at their full strength, and if you're not prepared for every country - be that Bosnia or Nigeria - well then they can defeat you."

Argentina start their campaign against Bosnia-Herzegovina in Rio de Janeiro on June 15.
