Angel di Maria: 'Argentina fortunate to have Lionel Messi'

Argentina winger Angel di Maria expresses his delight in being able to count Lionel Messi among his teammates.

Argentina winger Angel di Maria has expressed his delight in being able to count Lionel Messi among his teammates, and urged his compatriots to do everything they can to accommodate the record-breaking striker.

The Albiceleste have qualified for the second round of the 2014 World Cup after wins against Bosnia-Herzegovina and Iran, both of which saw goals scored by the Barcelona forward.

Di Maria told FIFA.com: "I think the people who played with Diego [Maradona] and the guys who run out with Leo today have been very fortunate.

"They got the best out of Maradona then, and we need to get the best out of Messi now. I think he's in fantastic form and let's hope it stays that way.

"What really matters is the support we give Leo. The idea is to make him feel as comfortable as possible. In the long run, that's the most important thing for all of us."

Argentina last won the World Cup in 1986.
