Jens Lehmann expects English clubs to struggle in Champions League

Jens Lehmann believes that Arsenal, Manchester City and Chelsea will struggle against the German clubs in the knockout rounds of the Champions League.

Retired goalkeeper Jens Lehmann believes that his former club Arsenal will struggle to compete with the German clubs in the Champions League, despite already beating Borussia Dortmund.

The Premier League outfit managed to clinch a 1-0 win over Dortmund on away turf last night.

However, Lehmann believes that the Gunners, as well as Manchester City and Chelsea, will struggle against the German contingent in the knockout rounds.

"Two weeks ago when I saw Borussia Dortmund playing at Arsenal and Bayern Munich being very strong, I thought the top two teams in Germany were stronger than the top teams in England, but last night has put it in a different light again," Lehmann told BBC Radio 5 live.

"I think both Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich will go through and then it will be a hard battle again for the likes of Man City, Arsenal and Chelsea to compete with them."

Manchester United also edged closer to qualifying for the next stage following a goalless draw with Real Sociedad.
