Former Arsenal keeper Jens Lehmann: 'Bundesliga not as strong as it seems'

Former Arsenal goalkeeper Jens Lehmann says that the Bundesliga is not as strong as it seems, despite its top two clubs meeting in the Champions League final.

Former Arsenal gaolkeeper Jens Lehmann has said that the Bundesliga is not as dominant as it might appear.

The division's top two sides faced off in last night's Champions League final, with Bayern Munich edging Borussia Dortmund at Wembley thanks to Arjen Robben's late goal.

Despite the all-German final, Lehmann believes that the German league as a whole is not as strong as others, such as the Premier League.

"It's comparable to the final three years ago between Manchester United and Chelsea where everybody thought 'oh the English are so strong now they will dominate the Champions league for years to come' and it didn't happen," Lehmann told BBC Radio 5 Live's Sportsweek programme.

"I think these two teams who we have seen yesterday are the cream of German football. Then you look at the last table, the German Bundesliga, you see the gap between the top two teams and the other teams in terms of points is huge.

"You can't put this quality on to the whole league in Germany."

Bayern finished the season 25 points ahead of Dortmund.
