Arsene Wenger hopes Arsenal will avoid Real Madrid, Bayern Munich in draw

Arsene Wenger admits that he wants Arsenal to avoid Real Madrid and Bayern Munich in the Champions League round-of-16 draw today.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has admitted that he would prefer a last-16 Champions League tie against Monaco as opposed to holders Real Madrid or Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich.

After finishing second in Group D behind Borussia Dortmund, Arsenal could face the two European giants, Atletico Madrid, Barcelona, Monaco or Porto.

"We've never had an easy ride," ITV Sport quotes Wenger as saying. "I don't think many teams want Madrid. We don't want Bayern Munich and I'm sure they don't want us."

When asked about the possibility of facing his former club Monaco, Wenger added: "I'm not against it at all because it would be a visit to my first home there. Of course I would love to go there."

The round-of-16 draw will take place in Nyon at 11am UK time.
