McClean confident of Arsenal revenge

Sunderland's Irish winger believes that the Black Cats' Premier League defeat to Arsenal was harsh and he is preparing to gain revenge when the sides meet in the FA Cup.

James McClean is hopeful that Sunderland can gain instant revenge when they face Arsenal in the FA Cup next weekend.

The 22-year-old's fourth goal of the season gave the Black Cats a 70th-minute lead in Saturday's 2-1 Premier League loss to the Gunners at the Stadium of Light.

Despite the result, McClean believes that his team showed enough spirit and skill during the game to prove that they can progress next time out.

He told the club's official website: "Arsenal are a quality side and that showed in the end. It was a great effort from ourselves, though, and I think we deserved something.

"Hopefully we can put the record straight next week.

"We're looking forward to it. Arsenal will know it won't be an easy game because we showed that today."

McClean has made 13 Sunderland appearances since Martin O'Neill handed him his debut in December.
