Arsene Wenger says that he is happy to offer help to interim Arsenal boss Freddie Ljungberg should he want it after the Swede replaced the sacked Unai Emery.

Arsene Wenger has said that he is happy to offer help to interim Arsenal boss Freddie Ljungberg should he want it.

The 42-year-old Swede was put in temporary charge following the sacking of Unai Emery last week and he oversaw a 2-2 draw with Norwich City in his first game as boss at the weekend.

Ljungberg enjoyed nine years under Wenger at Arsenal and the two are believed to enjoy a close relationship, with the experienced Frenchman saying that he would help out if needed.

Speaking at a meeting of the International Football Association Board, Wenger said: "I'm always happy to help my former players and my former club. And if he has that need, then of course I will be available.

"I do not want to comment too much on Arsenal. My heart is with the club and I want them to do well. Freddie is fantastic and committed and he will want to do this job for a long time. So he has an opportunity. What you want in life is that opportunity. Let's get him to work with his ideas and support him."

Ljungberg is expected to speak to both Wenger and Sven-Goran Eriksson in the coming days, with his second game as manager coming on Thursday when the Gunners welcome Brighton & Hove Albion to the Emirates Stadium.
