Carl Jenkinson hopeful of more first-team chances

Arsenal defender Carl Jenkinson admits that he hopes to secure more first-team chances with the Gunners after making his return from injury.

Arsenal defender Carl Jenkinson has admitted that he is hoping to compete with Hector Bellerin for a first-team place at the Emirates Stadium.

On Tuesday night, Jenkinson made his return from a long-term injury as he played all 90 minutes in Arsenal's 2-0 win over Reading in the EFL Cup.

Jenkinson is likely to drop out when Arsenal face Sunderland on Saturday, but the Englishman says that he is keen to create more competition in the right-back role over the coming months.

The 24-year-old told the London Evening Standard: "I hope I still have a role to play. We will see won't we?.

"Hector has been fantastic so far and he rightly deserves to be playing regularly, he has been brilliant so it is up to me when I get chances to play as well as I can and push him as well as I can."

Before last night, Jenkinson had not played for Arsenal since May 2014 after two loan spells with West Ham United.
