Arsene Wenger: "You're never too good for Arsenal"

Arsene Wenger slams Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard for convincing Luis Suarez that he was too good to join Arsenal.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has criticised Steven Gerrard for telling former teammate Luis Suarez that he was too good to join the club.

Wenger tried to bring Suarez to Arsenal from Liverpool last summer when the Gunners lodged a bid of £40m plus one pound, hoping that would be enough to trigger talks.

However, Suarez stayed at Anfield, and Wenger has revealed his displeasure at Gerrard's intervention in the deal.

"You're never too good for Arsenal and Steven Gerrard knows that," Wenger is quoted as saying by The Express.

"He asked him to stay because he wanted Suarez to play with him and have a chance to win the Premier League. But it didn't happen, and anyway, Suarez left."

Suarez later completed a £75m move to Barcelona.
