Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger says that defender Carl Jenkinson is able to express himself in his role after securing a regular spot in the team.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger believes that defender Carl Jenkinson is developing into a vital member of the North London team.

The 20-year-old has impressed in the early stages of the season and is expected to retain his place for this evening's Champions League meeting with Olympiakos.

"What is interesting with Carl is that in every game he brings so much going forward and you discover aspects of his game that you didn't see before," said Wenger.

"I feel at the start he was just thinking, 'I will just defend well, do my job' and he is now a bit more relaxed and you see something else in him."

Jenkinson has also claimed that he has yet to decide on whether he will play international football for England or Finland, as the defender is dual nationality due to having an English father and Finnish mother.
