Arsene Wenger undecided over Wojciech Szczesny place

Arsene Wenger admits that he does not yet know if he will recall Wojciech Szczesny to Arsenal's first XI for the trip to Manchester City.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has insisted that he does not know if he will recall goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny for Sunday's trip to Manchester City.

Wenger elected to bench the Poland international in favour of David Ospina - who also started last week's FA Cup win over Hull City - for the 3-0 victory over Stoke City this afternoon.

The omission is thought to be further punishment for Szczesny, who was reportedly fined £20,000 after being caught smoking in the showers at St Mary's on New Year's Day.

Asked whether or not Ospina will keep his place for next week's visit to Eastlands, Wenger told the club's official website: "I haven't made a decision yet.

"It was a decision for today's game. Szczesny is our number one competing with Ospina and [Damien] Martinez - that's our job."

When asked why he dropped Szczesny, the Frenchman added: "I do not want to talk too much about that because the more I talk, the less I inform you."

First-half goals from Laurent Koscielny and Alexis Sanchez helped the Gunners into a 2-0 half-time lead against Stoke, before the Chilean added another after the break.
