Arsene Wenger is interested in succeeding under-fire Niko Kovac as Bayern Munich manager next year, according to a report.

Former Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger will reportedly hold off from returning to management until Bayern Munich sack Niko Kovac.

The Frenchman has been out of work since ending his 22-year spell in North London at the end of last season.

Wenger recently reiterated that he is on the lookout for a new job, though he is not interested in a return to the Premier League due to his strong connection with Arsenal.

Amid doubts of Kovac's future as Bayern boss, having struggled in the first five months in the Allianz Arena dugout, The Telegraph claims that Wenger is keen to take over in early 2019.

Reports in Germany suggest that the 69-year-old is under serious consideration by Bayern chiefs, who are concerned that Kovac does not have what it takes to deal with the big names in the dressing room.

The Bavarian giants are fifth in the Bundesliga following their 3-3 home draw with Fortuna Dusseldorf at the weekend.
