Arsenal "unlikely" to sign new players this month

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger admits that the club are "unlikely" to sign any new players before the close of the transfer window next week.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has admitted that the club are "unlikely" to bring any new players into the Emirates this month.

The North London outfit, who currently sit at the top of the Premier League table, have been linked with a number of players, including Schalke 04's Julian Draxler.

Reports have also claimed that the club are interested in Barcelona's Cristian Tello after Wenger was spotted watching Barca's 4-1 win over Levante in the Copa del Rey yesterday.

However, according to Arsenal's Twitter page, in this morning's press conference Wenger said: "It looks unlikely that we will sign anyone. We are not close to anything. If something exceptional turns up, of course we will do it."

The Gunners were heavily criticised for their lack of spending in the summer transfer window last year before they snapped up Mesut Ozil from Real Madrid on deadline day.
