Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira urges the Gunners to let him join Boca Juniors this summer following the passing of his mother.

Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira has confirmed his desire to join Boca Juniors this summer.

The Uruguay international - currently on loan at Atletico Madrid - tragically lost his mother last month after she tested positive for COVID-19, and he has been persistently linked with a return to South America.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is keen to wait until the end of the season before discussing Torreira's future, but the 25-year-old has begged the Gunners to let him leave amid interest from Boca and other clubs on the continent.

Speaking to ESPN's Federico Bulos, Torreira said: "I want to go to Boca Juniors now. I am 25 years old and I know it's a club that plays for great targets.

"I'd like to make the fans happy... but I know it's not easy. Boca should reach an agreement with Arsenal for a one-year loan."

Arsenal have reportedly set a £15m asking price for Torreira, who has only started three La Liga games under Diego Simeone this season.
