Arsenal midfield pair Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Mohamed Elneny are considering leaving the club as they are struggling for game time, according to a report.

Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Mohamed Elneny are both considering leaving Arsenal in January, according to a report.

The pair have both struggled for game time this season, with Elneny playing only 45 minutes in the Premier League and Maitland-Niles starting just once.

Maitland-Niles, 24, looked set to exit the Emirates Stadium in the summer, but Mikel Arteta blocked a deadline day loan move to Everton.

According to The Sun, the two players may now state their desire to leave in the new year in search of regular football.

However, the report adds that Arsenal are keen to keep both players - Maitland-Niles in particular because Arteta will be short of midfield cover in January when Elneny and Thomas Partey are away at the African Cup of Nations.

Granit Xhaka's injury, which is expected to rule him out until February at the earliest, also leaves the Gunners needing more options in the middle of the park, although Albert Sambi Lokonga has been a regular since signing from Anderlecht in the summer.
