Arsenal's Arsene Wenger expects "very calm" transfer market

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger says that clubs in England will be restricted by the lack of funds from making too many signings in January.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger believes that there will be relatively little transfer activity during the January window.

The Frenchman says that lack of finances for clubs will prevent them from spending too much this month.

"[I'm expecting it to be] very calm because, first of all, I believe there is little money and what can happen is basically a transfer market within the English clubs," Wenger told Arsenal's official website.

"That is more difficult than with the foreign clubs. Overall, I believe that not a lot will happen. [The economic situation] could [affect movement] because the clubs have to look at the finances.

"What makes the clubs are the fans and what makes the fans is the economy. On that front, nobody is really sure what will happen in 2013."

Arsenal are currently sixth in the Premier League table.
