Tim Sherwood hails "magnificent" result against Bournemouth

Tim Sherwood says that he is delighted with Aston Villa's 1-0 victory over Bournemouth on the opening day of the Premier League season.

Aston Villa manager Tim Sherwood has said that he is delighted with his side's victory over Bournemouth.

The Villans started their new Premier League campaign with a 1-0 win over the Cherries, thanks to a second-half goal from Rudy Gestede.

"We are obviously delighted," he told the club's official website. "We knew it would be tough coming here. It's the first time for Bournemouth in the Premier League. To get three points is a magnificent result for us.

"There are positives - we got a clean sheet, it was 90 minutes for a lot of players, they have performed on the big stage with me assessing them and they will improve.

"We are spending morning and afternoon on that training field. They have brought into it. We are just looking to improve now as much as we can because we owe it to the supporters at this big football club."

Villa are back in action next Friday with a home game against Manchester United.
