Aston Villa boss Paul Lambert delighted by new Gabriel Agbonlahor deal

Aston Villa boss Paul Lambert believes that Gabriel Agbonlahor still has an international future following his decision to sign a new contract with the club.

Aston Villa boss Paul Lambert has expressed his delight following Gabriel Agbonlahor's decision to sign a new contract with the club.

The 27-year-old forward penned a four-year deal at Villa Park on Wednesday, extending his stay until 2019.

With one goal to his name already this season, Lambert believes that Agbonlahor has a chance of working his way back into the England setup if he continues to apply himself correctly.

"We're delighted at the club that we've secured his future here. He knows the club and he has a genuine desire to continue to progress," the Scot told Villa's official website.

"If he can retain that hunger and maintain that standard and level of consistency in his game, he'll not only be a valuable asset for Villa but he could back into playing international football as well. He has plenty to offer."

Villa are back in Premier League action on Saturday when they face Liverpool at Anfield.
