Dortmund have 13 goals to Atletico's nine, with four of those coming in a standout victory in the group stage of the Champions League in October 2018.
The two teams first met in the quarter-finals of the Cup Winners' Cup back in 1966, with the first leg of their last-eight clash finishing 1-1, before Dortmund won the second leg 1-0 to advance to the semi-finals.
The pair also went to battle in the group stage of the 1996-97 competition, and there were away wins for both, with BVB triumphing 1-0 in Madrid, before Atletico recorded a 2-1 victory in Germany.
Dortmund went on to win the Champions League that season, with the Bundesliga outfit famously beating Manchester United in the semi-finals before recording a 3-1 win over Juventus in the final.
BVB beat Atletico 4-0 at home in the group stage of the 2018-19 competition, but Atletico gained revenge on home soil, recording a 2-0 victory.
Dortmund were victorious when the pair locked horns in the quarter-finals of the 2023-24 Champions League, winning the second leg 4-2 after losing the first 2-1 to triumph 5-4 on aggregate.
