Bayer Leverkusen recorded a 1-0 win over Atletico Madrid in the last 16 of their Champions League tie this evening.
The German side were first to threaten and Lars Bender fired in a low effort that went just wide, but the midfielder should have perhaps have fed teammate Karim Bellarabi.

Leverkusen continued to press and Mario Mandzukic saved his side when he cleared Wendell's goal-bound effort off the line on 13 minutes.
Bosnian international defender Emir Spahic was unlucky not to open the scoring before the half-hour mark when he smashed an effort against the crossbar from outside the box.
The home side took the lead in the second half when Hakan Calhanoglu profited from some good work from Bellarabi to convert before the hour mark.

Fernando Torres was introduced as a substitute for Diego Simeone's men, and the ex-Chelsea man wasted a good chance when he fired straight at Leno when well placed on 75 minutes.
Los Rojiblancos were reduced to 10 men moments later when Tiago was given his second yellow for a foul on Bellarabi, and they thought that they had secured a late equaliser when Torres poked home.
However, the forward's effort was chalked off, with the officials judging the ball to have gone out of play before it reached the Spaniard.
