Diego Costa double sees Atletico Madrid beat Osasuna

Atletico Madrid move within a point of second-placed Real Madrid in La Liga, thanks to Diego Costa's brace at Osasuna.

Atletico Madrid have kept pace with local rivals Real Madrid in La Liga by seeing off Osasuna 2-0 this evening.

The hosts began with more of the possession and territory but couldn't really test Thibaut Courtois in goal before Atletico struck on the break.

Koke broke away and showed awareness to slide across for Diego Costa, whose initial shot was saved but the rebound fell kindly for Costa to nod home.

Osasuna almost levelled in the 40th minute but Oier Sanjurjo saw his header acrobatically kept out by Courtois.

The Belgian goalkeeper, who is on loan from Chelsea, was again on hand to keep Atletico ahead just before the break when he made a double save to deny Masoud Shojaei and Francisco Punal.

Costa doubled his and Atletico's tally just four minutes after the interval by finishing Koke's free kick from close range.

That second goal settled the visitors and they saw out the match to move within a point of Real but still 11 shy of runaway leaders Barcelona.
