Barcelona 'considered appointing Thierry Henry as manager last season'

Barcelona were reportedly interested in appointing Thierry Henry as manager last season before Ernesto Valverde signed a contract extension with the club.

Barcelona reportedly considered appointing Thierry Henry as manager last season before Ernesto Valverde signed a contract extension with the club.

The former Arsenal forward spent three seasons at Camp Nou, scoring 49 goals in all competitions and winning the Champions League in 2009.

Henry's first managerial venture at AS Monaco was something of a disaster, with the Frenchman only managing five wins from 20 games ahead of being dismissed after just three months.

However, according to Mundo Deportivo, the Catalans made contact with Henry last season at a time when Valverde was mulling over signing a contract extension.

Henry has since embarked on a new managerial venture, taking over as coach of MLS side Montreal Impact on Friday.

Reports have strongly suggested that incumbent Netherlands boss Ronald Koeman is being lined up as Barcelona's manager for next season.
