Barcelona confirm Matheus Fernandes agreement

Barcelona reach an agreement with Palmeiras for the transfer of 21-year-old midfielder Matheus Fernandes.

Barcelona have reached an agreement with Palmeiras for the transfer of Matheus Fernandes.

The 21-year-old, who operates as a defensive midfielder, only joined Palmeiras from Botafogo in January 2019.

The former Brazil Under-20 international will again be on the move this summer, though, with Barca announcing that they had agreed a deal for the South American.

"FC Barcelona and Palmeiras have reached an agreement for the transfer of the player Matheus Fernandes Siqueira and he will join the club on 1 July 2020," read a statement on the Spanish club's official website.

The Spanish champions will pay an initial €7m (£5.9m) plus €3m (£2.5m) in add-ons, with the midfielder agreeing a five-year contract at Camp Nou.

Fernandes's release clause has also been set at €300m (£252m).
