Barcelona 'submit £51.5m bid for Matthijs de Ligt'

Barcelona make a £51.5m offer for Ajax centre-back Matthijs de Ligt, according to a report.

Barcelona have reportedly made a £51.5m offer for Ajax centre-back Matthijs de Ligt.

De Ligt, who is regarded as one of the best young defenders in European football, has already made more than 100 appearances for Ajax despite only turning 19 in August.

Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus have recently been credited with an interest in the Netherlands international, but according to Sport, Barca have made a £51.5m bid for the teenager.

The same report claims that the Catalan giants have also placed a five-year contract on the table, which would earn De Ligt the same amount as Frenkie de Jong when he arrives in Spain this summer.

The defender, who has a contract in Amsterdam until the end of the 2020-21 campaign, has scored twice in 25 Eredivisie appearances this term.

De Ligt recently helped his team overcome Real Madrid to reach the quarter-finals of the Champions League.
