The full-back has yet to make his debut for the Liverpool first team, and McLaughlin has admitted that he is keen to further his senior experience at Oakwell.
The 19-year-old told the club's official website: "While I'm here, I want to be playing as much football as I can and do well for the team."
McLaughlin could feature when Barnsley travel to Charlton Athletic on Saturday.
