Preview: Bayern Munich Women vs. Paris Saint-Germain Women - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Tuesday's Women's Champions League clash between Bayern Munich Women and Paris Saint-Germain Women, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

The Women's Champions League returns in midweek with Bayern Munich Women playing host to Paris Saint-Germain Women in the first quarter-final.

Both teams head into the first leg in confident mood, with Bayern aiming for a ninth consecutive victory in all competitions, while the visitors are looking to extend their unbeaten run to 16 games.

Match preview

Bayern are bidding to reach the semi-finals of the Champions League for the second straight season.

They enter Tuesday's encounter in imperious form, with Jens Scheuer's side yet to taste defeat in 2022, while they have won all six of their competitive contests this calendar year by an aggregate 30-5 scoreline.

Their last two matches have both ended in 4-2 victories with the most recent of those coming at the weekend, thanks to goals from Maximiliane Rall, Lea Schuller, Viviane Asseyi and Jovana Damjanovic.

Despite their impressive run of results, Bayern sit in second place in the Frauen-Bundesliga with a point separating them from league leaders Wolfsburg, but they will have to put their title charge to one side as they turn their attention to Tuesday's quarter-final.

The hosts will be aiming to draw inspiration from their three home victories in the group stage, with Bayern still yet to concede at home in this season's Champions League.

Like their opponents, PSG have never won the Champions League, but they have reached the final on two occasions, in 2015 and 2017.

The French Champions will be dreaming of lifting their first European trophy, but those dreams will have to be put on hold as they focus on negotiating a tough quarter-final.

They enter Tuesday's contest off the back of a 2-0 home victory against Soyaux, with a goal apiece for Sakina Karchaoui and Aminata Diallo securing the three points.

That victory ensured that PSG – who sit in second place in D1 Arkema – are also yet to lose this calendar year, with the French champions unbeaten since a 6-1 defeat against Lyon in November.

Their form in the Champions League so far has been exemplary, with PSG winning all six group games by a combined 25-0 scoreline.

Team News

Giulia Gwinn came on at half time for Bayern in their victory over Eintracht Frankfurt and the 22-year-old could be given a starting place for Tuesday's contest.

After scoring at the weekend, Rall is expected to retain her place in the starting lineup.

Schuller, meanwhile, scored three goals in the Champions League group stage, while in the league, the Germany international has netted on 13 occasions, and she will be one of Bayern's main goal threats.

As for PSG, they rested a couple of players for their league contest with Soyaux, with one eye on Tuesday's fixture.

Barbora Votikova will return between the posts, while star striker Marie-Antoinette Katoto will also come back into the side.

Sara Dabritz is expected to start against her former side, and she will be joined in midfield by Grace Geyoro and Kheira Hamraoui.

Bayern Munich Women possible starting lineup:
Leitzig; Gwinn, Viggosdottir, Kumagai, Simon; Magull, Zadrazil; Rall, Dallmann, Buhl; Schuller

Paris Saint-Germain Women possible starting lineup:
Votikova; Lawrence, De Almeida, Cascarino, Karchaoui; Dabritz, Geyoro, Hamraoui; Diani, Baltimore, Katoto

We say: Bayern Munich Women 1-1 Paris Saint-Germain Women

Both teams head into Tuesday's contest in confident mood following a positive run of results, but with neither side wanting to give too much away in the first leg, we think that this contest could be a cagey one, which would set up a thrilling second leg in France.
