Former Bayern Munich skipper Stefan Effenberg calls on Bastian Schweinsteiger to perform in Saturday's Champions League final against Chelsea.

Former Bayern Munich skipper Stefan Effenberg has claimed that Bastian Schweinsteiger must perform in the Champions League final against Chelsea on Saturday.

Effenberg won the Champions League with the German club in 2001, and he has called on the midfielder to rise to the occasion.

"There is a lot of hope resting on his shoulders and he cannot buy any more time. He must play well now," Effenberg told Bild.

"Sooner or later, he has to be there to lead this team. I am keen to see whether he can cope with the pace. He must play intelligently."

Saturday's final will be held in the Allianz Arena.
