Karl-Heinz Rummenigge believes that the Bundesliga needs to have a longer winter break and extend into the summer months to prepare the players for the 2022 Qatar World Cup.

Bayern Munich chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge believes that the Bundesliga should change its calendar to prepare the Germany national team for the 2022 World Cup finals in Qatar.

Rummenigge claims that the German top flight should introduce a longer winter break and extend the season into June and July to acclimatise the players.

"From May to August is when we do not play football in Germany, although these are the months with the best weather," he told Die-Welt. "A change could be an advantage to us.

"The football family is united. Either pausing in January and February or in October and November, I can see in this model as an opportunity for the Bundesliga. We would prefer to pause when the weather is bad here."

Bayern have already won the Bundesliga this season.
