The 30-year-old was released by Valencia at the start of the month and recent reports had linked him with a move to Tottenham Hotspur.
However, he has opted to join the Portuguese champions and has penned a two-year contract with the club.
Jonas has scored twice in eight appearances for Brazil and won his last cap in 2012.
