Blackburn Rovers defender Gael Givet is to undergo surgery on Thursday to correct a heart problem.
The 30-year-old was substituted during his side's recent match against Sunderland with heart palpitations.
"He is going to have a procedure on Thursday and that will put him out for a week or two," said manager Steve Kean.
"I believe they will go in through his groin and towards a major artery and vein and there is some aid that is fitted."
Rovers face a crucial Premier League game on Tuesday when they host fellow strugglers Bolton Wanderers at Ewood Park.
