Wednesday created the first chance of the game in the second minute when Gary Madine's header went over the crossbar.

Two minutes later Jason Lowe came close for the hosts with a right-footed shot.

Blackburn did not have to wait long before finding the target, though, as moments later Grant Hanley turned in David Dunn's cross from the left flank.

Ross Barkley could have restored parity for the visitors just minutes later but his attempt went off target.

Wednesday continued to create chances to equalise for the remainder of the half, with Miguel Angel Llera and Michail Antonio trying to get past Paul Robinson but in vain.

Llera had another chance to make it 1-1 for Wednesday at the start of the second half with a header, but he failed to keep it on target.

Lewis Buxton then tried his luck for the visitors just after the hour mark before Rovers' Martin Olsson had his attempt blocked.

Jermaine Johnson drew a good save from Rovers goalkeeper Robinson on 69 minutes, as the hosts held on for a 1-0 win for the remainder of the game.
