Borussia Dortmund have confirmed that central defender Neven Subotic will not play again this season after suffering a double cruciate knee ligament injury at the weekend.
Subotic sustained the injury just before half time in Dortmund's 2-1 defeat at Wolfsburg and was quickly stretchered off and replaced by Sokratis Papastathopoulos.
Coach Jurgen Klopp will now be without a defensive linchpin for at least the next six months, with Dortmund confirming the news on their official website earlier today.
A short statement read: "Neven Subotic´s season is over. The Borussia Dortmund centre-back suffered a posterior cruciate ligament and medial collateral ligament injury in his right knee in Saturday´s Bundesliga game at VfL Wolfsburg.
"According to BVB team doctor Markus Braun, the 25-year-old will be sidelined for at least six months."
The 25-year-old has been virtually ever-present for Dortmund so far this season, starting 14 matches in all competitions as part of a familiar centre-back partnership alongside Mats Hummels.
