Dani Alves: 'Spain are favourites'

Brazil right-back Dani Alves claims that Spain are the favourites to lift the World Cup this summer.

Brazil right-back Dani Alves has claimed that Spain are the favourites to lift the World Cup this summer.

No European team has ever won the World Cup on South American soil, but La Roja, who are the current holders, are among the favourites to triumph.

Alves has also paid tribute to Germany and Argentina, who he believes will also challenge Brazil and Spain for the title.

"The ones who are defending the title are Spain, and they are the main favourites. I like them," Alves told reporters.

"I admire Germany also, they have lots of very good players. Argentina have an amazing attack. And Brazil.

"I'd put us up there because we're playing at home. The people are with the national team, and the national team are with the people."

Brazil begin their Group A campaign against Croatia on Thursday.
