Brentford are dealt a blow as goalkeeper David Raya is ruled out for up to four months with a knee injury sustained in Sunday's clash with Leicester City.

Brentford have been handed a major blow, as goalkeeper David Raya has been ruled out of action for up to four months with a knee issue.

The Spanish stopper was involved in a collision with Leicester City forward Ayoze Perez when the two sides met on Sunday, and the extent of his injury has now been revealed.

As revealed by Brentfordfc.com, the 26-year-old will spend a prolonged period on the sidelines, ruling him out for the majority of the Premier League campaign.

The club's Head of Medical said: "David has unfortunately sustained an injury to the Posterior Cruciate Ligament in his left knee. The issue will require a prolonged period of time to heal and for David to then regain function and strength around the joint."

After featuring in 45 Championship games last season as the Bees won promotion to the top flight, the Spaniard started in each of the opening nine Premier League games this term, keeping three clean sheets and only conceding nine goals.

In his absence, Huesca loanee Alvaro Fernandez is expected to step in between the sticks for the London outfit, beginning with a trip to Stoke City in the EFL Cup round of 16 on Wednesday.
