Brisbane Roar leapfrog Western Sydney Wanderers to top of A-League table

Brisbane Roar secure a 3-1 victory over Western Sydney Wanderers to move to the top of the A-League table.

Brisbane Roar have taken Western Sydney Wanderers' place at the top of the A-League table after securing a 3-1 victory over their opponents.

The home side unleashed the first attack of the game in the first minute through Besart Berisha, who picked up the ball from the middle of the park and took on a number of red-and-white striped shirts to get into the box. After finding space, the forward took a shot with his left foot, but it flew wide of the post.

It didn't take long for Brisbane to take the lead, and it came from a piece of individual skill from Berisha, who held off three Western Sydney players to storm into the box. After his first shot bounced off the defender, the forward picked up the ball again and hammered it into the left corner of the net.

Western Sydney had their first hint of a chance when Shannon Cole received the ball out wide of the penalty area, but instead of keeping the ball on the ground and using options to his left, he chipped the ball over the top into the box and into the hands of the keeper.

Brisbane managed to give themselves a two-goal lead around the 20-minute mark of the game courtesy of Ivan Franjic, who set himself up for the shot on the volley just outside of the area to give his side a comfortable advantage.

The away side were given some hope when a defensive error from Brisbane allowed the visitors to win the ball back and play in Brendon Santalab, who drove into the box and slid the ball into the back of the net.

At the start of the second half, Brisbane had the chance to extend their lead with a free kick just outside of the area, but Luke Brattan's effort glided over the bar.

After a number of chances for the home side, Western Sydney's Cole had the chance to draw level with an overhead kick just yards away from goal, but his effort was off target, leaving the match open between the two sides.

Both sides had chances to add to their goal tally, but Brisbane's Kwame Yeboah managed to win it for the home side after cutting inside the box and launching a powerful right-footed shot into the back of the net just before added time.
