The EFL postpones Friday's matches Burnley vs. Norwich City and Tranmere Rovers vs. Stockport following the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

Friday's scheduled EFL fixtures have been postponed following the death of The Queen.

Newly-relegated duo Burnley and Norwich City had been due to face off in the Championship at Turf Moor, while there was also a League Two match between Tranmere Rovers and Stockport County scheduled.

However, following emergency talks the EFL has now confirmed that neither game will take place as a mark of respect following Queen Elizabeth II's passing.

Buckingham Palace announced the death of Britain's longest-ever reigning monarch at 6.30pm BST on Thursday following a day of concern regarding her health.

The nation will now enter an official period of mourning in memory of the 96-year-old, with a decision on the fate of the weekend's football matches up and down the country due to follow.

"As a mark of respect, following the passing of Her Majesty, The Queen Elizabeth II earlier today, the EFL has confirmed that its fixtures scheduled for tomorrow evening (Friday 9 September) – Burnley v Norwich City and Tranmere Rovers v Stockport County - have been postponed," read a statement on the EFL's website.

"A determination regarding the remainder of this weekend's scheduled fixtures will be made following a review of the official mourning guidance, in addition to further consultation with DCMS and other sports on Friday morning."

The decision follows announcements in golf and cricket that Friday's BMW PGA Championship action and day two of the Third Test between England and South Africa would not take place.
