Cagliari, Napoli play out draw

Cagliari and Napoli draw 1-1 in their Serie A match tonight.

Cagliari have drawn 1-1 at home to Napoli in their Serie A match tonight.

Danilo Avelar had the first chance, but his effort was blocked. A succession of corners followed for Cagliari before they broke the deadlock with nine minutes gone.

Davide Astori picked out Nene, who moved the ball to his left foot before firing it into the net from close range.

Napoli fought back after that, with Gonzalo Higuain seeing his effort saved by Vlada Avramov. However, it was 1-1 shortly after when the Argentine striker converted from the penalty spot after a foul by Astori.

Blerim Dzemaili had a shot blocked, before Higuain fired over the bar from Christian Maggio's cross.

Radja Nainggolan saw a powerful right-footed effort saved by Pepe Reina, but the goalkeeper was taken off with a hamstring injury and was replaced by Rafael.

Lorenzo Insigne smacked a shot over the bar after being set up by Goran Pandev, but it was Cagliari's turn to threaten next as Daniele Conti missed the target from inside the box.

Napoli's Jose Callejon thought that he had given his team the lead after picking up the rebound from a free kick, but a number of players were in offside positions.

Rafael kept out Marco Sau's shot with just two minutes remaining as neither side could find a winner.
