Celtic cruise to Partick Thistle victory

Gary Mackay-Steven and Stuart Armstrong both score on their Celtic debuts as they record a 3-0 win away to Partick Thistle.

Celtic extended their lead at the top of the Scottish Premiership to three points with a 3-0 win away to Partick Thistle this evening.

Gary Mackay-Steven, who was making his first start for the Bhoys, gave his new side the lead early on, before fellow debutant Stuart Armstrong got in on the act on the half-hour mark.

Stefan Johansen then netted on 66 minutes as Ronny Deila's side recorded a comfortable win at Firhill.

Mackay-Steven gave the visitors the lead after 38 seconds when he steered a shot underneath Partick goalkeeper Scott Fox.

The home side almost responded instantly in what was a frantic opening few minutes, but Virgil van Dijk was on hand to head clear.

Nir Bitton was next to try his luck for Celtic, but the midfielder dragged his effort wide after a good move to work the space for the shot on 18 minutes.

However Armstrong was not to be outdone by his fellow debutant, and he extended the lead on the half-hour mark on his own maiden start for the club.

Johansen made it 3-0 in the second half when he lashed home with his left foot after good play from John Guidetti in the build-up.

Gary Fraser and Kallum Higginbotham had efforts for the visitors in the second period, but Celtic goalkeeper Craig Gordon was equal to both efforts as the visitors eventually cruised to victory.
