Half-Time Report: Daryl Murphy, Freddie Sears put Ipswich Town ahead at the break

Goals from Daryl Murphy and Freddie Sears give Ipswich Town a 2-0 half-time lead over hosts Charlton Athletic at The Valley in the Championship.

Daryl Murphy's fifth goal in three league games and a late finish from Freddie Sears have handed Ipswich Town a 2-0 half-time lead over hosts Charlton Athletic in the Championship this afternoon.

Ipswich started the brighter of the two sides and they came close through Brett Pitman early on, but his effort was saved routinely by Charlton stopper Stephen Henderson.

The Athletic keeper was brought back into action around 10 minutes later with another smart stop, this time as Henderson kept out a stinging volley from Town frontman Sears.

The game's opener arrived in the 28th minute and it came from the dominant visitors, when Tommy Smith crossed for Murphy, who was able to continue his impressive scoring run with a header from close range.

The Addicks almost hit back straight after the goal, only for Ipswich goalkeeper Dean Gerken to get himself in the way of Ademola Lookman's shot.

Town made the hosts pay during injury time, as Sears returned to notch a second for his side having squeezed a tidy finish beyond Henderson to make it 2-0 at the break.
