Preview: Charlton Athletic vs. Sheffield Wednesday

Sports Mole looks ahead to Saturday's Championship clash between Charlton and Sheffield Wednesday at The Valley.

Charlton Athletic's honeymoon period under Bob Peeters appears to be at an end following two defeats in their last three games, but the Belgian will still be pleased with the start he has made at the club.

The Addicks go into Saturday's match against Sheffield Wednesday at The Valley sitting just one point adrift of the playoff places having opened the campaign with a remarkable 11-match unbeaten streak.

A league-high seven of their 14 outings have ended all square, preventing them from being amongst the early pacesetters, but a swift return to winning ways this weekend could see them climb into the top six.

They will need to improve upon their last outing, however, as they were comfortably beaten 3-0 by Fulham at Craven Cottage on Friday.

Peeters will be glad to have his side back at The Valley, as they are still unbeaten in front of their own fans, while only Wolverhampton Wanderers have picked up more home points this season.

There is more good news when it comes to injuries, with Igor Vetokele available following an Achilles problem. Johann Gudmundsson is also pushing for a start, while Rhoys Wiggins could return from a toe injury.

Yoni Buyens is also available following suspension, but Frederic Bulot will not feature despite his hamstring injury not being as bad as first feared.

Wednesday are one of few teams who could give Charlton a run for their money as draw specialists in the league, and the Owls have come away with a point from four of their last five outings.

The wins have dried up for Stuart Gray following a promising start to the season, and they have now gone seven matches without a victory in all competitions.

Perhaps even more worryingly for Gray, his side have failed to even score in their last three outings and have found the net just three times in their seven-match winless streak.

On the flip side, Wednesday have kept back-to-back clean sheets in the league and are still just four points off the playoff places despite their recent slump in form.

They also boast an impressive away record this season, with only three teams having amassed more points on their travels and no side having conceded fewer.

Despite their recent lack of goals, Gray is likely to keep faith with Atdhe Nuhiu and Stevie May up front this weekend in what could be an unchanged side for the visitors.
