Charlton edge out Blackpool

Charlton Atheltic beat Blackpool 2-1 to take all three points, thanks to first-half goals from Johnnie Jackson and Scott Wagstaff.

Charlton Athletic took all three points after a comfortable 2-1 win over Blackpool at The Valley this afternoon.

The Addicks almost took the lead when Matt Taylor met a corner from Dale Stephens, but he was denied by a fine clearance from Nathan Delfouneso.

The home side did take the lead on 23 minutes after Scott Wagstaff intercepted well before playing the ball to Chris Solly. The defender's deflected pass then fell to Johnnie Jackson, who made it 1-0.

Charlton's players and staff were left outraged after the referee turned down their appeals for a penalty when Wagstaff was tripped on the edge of the area.

Chris Powell's side doubled their lead in added time when Wagstaff was on hand to put the ball into the net after Yann Kermorgant's header was saved well by the goalkeeper.

An in-swinging corner from Charlton caused havoc after the break when Matt Gilks failed to collect, though nobody was ready to finish for the home side.

Thomas Ince tried to get his side back into the game on 70 minutes, running towards goal with pace, but his shot went wide of the mark.

Nathan Ecclestone scored a late consolation for Blackpool, but it was too late as the final whistle confirmed the win for Charlton.
